Kitsons Environmental Europe Ltd, The contracting company carrying out the massive asbestos strip at Chapelcross Site, has answered a call for help from the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Archie Dryburgh.

Southwest Scotland Rnr, who are a charity helping the recovery of armed forces personnel, in Carsethorn near New Abbey, had two fires last year at which a lot of damage was done to the house, where the soldiers or marines stay. Recently work has been progressing, however, scaffolding was needed to finish the exterior work to the house. 10 Marines from 42 Commando are staying at the house this week, and have just returned from Afghanistan and are at the start of their rehabilitation process.
Archie said that in discussion with Jennefer Tobin, the Chairperson of the charity, the issue was raised about needing scaffolding, but the difficulty in affording it.
